Ludlow Mayfair

Ludlow Town Council is delighted to welcome the return of Ludlow’s time honoured Mayfair, arriving in town from 5pm on Wednesday 29th April 2026. This adored event will once again transform Mill Street, the Market Square and Events Square into a vibrant celebration of tradition, community and family fun.

This cherished annual fair has been brought to Ludlow for generations by the Wynn Family, whose long-standing partnership with the town has helped preserve the Mayfair’s unique character and its place in local life. Today, Edward Danter plays a leading role in continuing this proud tradition, working alongside his wife, Maxine Wynn, to ensure the Mayfair remains a much-loved highlight of Ludlow’s calendar. Carole Wynn also continues to play an active role in the event, honouring the legacy of her late husband, David Wynn, whose contribution to Ludlow is fondly remembered with a memorial bench in Castle Gardens.

Ludlow’s Mayfair will open to the public from Thursday 30th April to Monday 4th May, running from lunchtime into the evening and offering plenty of opportunities for families, residents and visitors to enjoy the rides, food stalls and traditional fairground atmosphere. Opening hours vary slightly each day, so visitors are encouraged to check signage and social media updates during the event.

The Mayfair brings a lively mix of classic rides, traditional games and food, creating the familiar atmosphere that generations of Ludlow families look forward to each spring. Visitors can expect favourites such as the Walters, dodgems, Oxygen and traditional carousel, alongside prize winning games and a wide range of sweet and savoury treats from candyfloss and toffee apples to hot doughnuts and street food stalls.

A cornerstone of Ludlow’s Mayfair celebrations, the Mayfair Dodgem Service will take place on Sunday 3rd May at 11.30am, led by the Bishop’s Chaplain, Revd Jane Plackett Ferguson, with music from the Choir of St Laurence’s Church. The Mayor of Ludlow, Cllr Diane Lyle, invites residents and visitors to join this unique service, where the congregation is seated in the dodgem cars.

To ensure the fair arrives and runs smoothly, road closures will be in place from 5pm on Wednesday 29th April until 10am on Tuesday 5th May. These include High Street, Mill Street, Castle Square and Dinham (between Castle Square and Camp Lane). Through traffic restrictions will also apply on Broad Street, and the one way order on Bell Lane will be suspended. Castle Street car park will be closed for the duration of the fair, and residents are kindly asked to remove vehicles from Mill Street by 4pm on Wednesday 29th April. These temporary changes will be clearly signposted and help create a safe, welcoming space for everyone to enjoy the Mayfair.

To make way for the Mayfair, Ludlow Market on Market Square will close following the regular market on Monday 27th April and will reopen on Wednesday 6th May. During the fair, traders will operate under the Buttercross: Lee’s Farm Shop on Wednesday 29th April, Friday 1st May and Saturday 2nd May, and Evans Family Butchers on Monday 4th May.
