A Trustee at St Michael’s Hospice in Hereford is gearing up for a fundraising adventure of his own after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

David Hammond has been on the Board of Trustees at the Bartestree-based Hospice for almost a decade and will spend the next couple of weeks raising funds for them and Prostate Cancer UK.

His “mad three weeks” will finish in the first week of June when he begins chemotherapy, by which time he hopes to have raised at least £10,000. His adventures include a road trip with his family to Paris on Saturday 28th May where his beloved Liverpool FC face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final.

The Tillington resident also has a number of fundraising golf days planned.

“I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, which has spread a bit,” said David.

“I’m already on hormone therapy before beginning chemotherapy on 6th June, so my timeframe for this fundraising is tight. Really, the aim of the next few weeks is to raise awareness of prostate cancer through golf and football, and to raise as much as possible for St Michael’s Hospice and Prostate Cancer UK.”
