Westfields recorded a 1-0 away win at Tuffley Rovers on Saturday to keep them in the chase for the second spot in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

Josh Hunt scored the vital goal in the 13th minute for Westfields to avenge the 1-0 defeat that Tuffley Rovers inflicted on them at allpay.park earlier in the season.

It was a dour game on a bumpy pitch but Westfields edged it with the decisive goal in the 13th minute when Dan Stoneman sent young winger Harrison Summers clear on the right wing and his brilliant cross was headed home in fine style by Westfields’ leading goal scorer Josh Hunt.

Westfields then had a number of opportunities to have increased their lead but the Tuffley goalkeeper saved brilliantly from a pile-driver from Jamie Bird and then Bird had a great opportunity to have increased the lead but his shot sailed high over the Tuffley crossbar.

When Tuffley came back into the game Kane Kahaki was superb at the heart of the Westfields defence and then Matt Apperley saved well when Tuffley seemed certain to equalise.

The Tuffley keeper was the busier of the two keepers in the first half and Westfields had a number of opportunities to have increased the lead but good opportunities were cleared by the home defence.

After the break Tuffley came more into the game and created a number of corners and free kicks in dangerous situations but Westfields’ defence stood firm with Joe Davies, Kahaki, Ollie Butler and Stoneman all in good form at the back.

Westfields had another good opportunity to increase the lead in the second half but MacDonald sent his free kick well wide of the goal and then a Bird shot flashed across the penalty area without anyone available to get onto the end to convert.

Tuffley came back strongly towards the end looking for an equaliser but the Westfields defence held firm for Westfields to hold out and record three excellent points.

Westfields now play at home next Saturday at allpay.park, kick-off 3pm, to another promotion contender, Corsham Town, as they bid to chase the second promotion spot.
