A Monmouth man is now serving a 25 month prison sentence after being convicted at Cardiff Crown Court.

Roger Nugent, 44, pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled drug of class A (cocaine), possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A (heroin), theft and breach of a criminal behaviour order.

The drug offences took place in Newport in March this year and the theft and breach of CBO took place in Monmouth in May.

PC Elliot Morgan said; "Nugent was stopped in March during a operation targeting drug supply in the north Monmouthshire area.

"Nugent was in possession of class A drugs which were intended for forward supply to vulnerable members of our communities. Whilst under investigation, Nugent stole a wallet containing £1,000 from an elderly man in Monmouth and breached a criminal behaviour order, all while he was subject of a suspended sentence for other theft offences.

"Illegal drugs have no place in our communities, and we are committed to disrupting and apprehending offenders involved in this type of criminal activity.  The safety of the Gwent public remains our priority, and we encourage anyone with information on drug supply to come forward."
