A man was airlifted to hospital after falling down a concrete pipe on the Herefordshire and Shropshire border.
Fire crews from Ludlow and Leintwardine were called to Burrington at just after 2:30pm following reports the man was trapped below the ground.
West Midlands Ambulance Service says the man had fallen around two metres.
Firefighters were able to winch the paitent from the concrete pipe.
The man, who was suffering from a slightly reduced level of consciousness, was treated for a head, knee and shoulder injuries and airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
