Ashford Bridge will be closed this Wednesday between 9.30am and 2.45pm to enable a routine Inspection of the bridge to be undertaken.
The bridge carries an unclassified road over the River Teme from Ashford Hall Junction with the A49 to the Serpent Junction at Ashford Carbonell.
While the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via the A49, Sheet Road and Caynham Road to Ashford Hall Junction.
Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the works, and access to frontages will be maintained up to the bridge closure.
The contractor carrying out the road closure will be Kier, with the bridge inspection team being provided by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council.
Steve Davenport, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “Sorry for any inconvenience on the day; it is vital we inspect bridges as part of keeping our road networks safe for all.”
Viv Parry, local Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow South, said: “At all times the safety of the public is necessary with routine inspections. This work will take place with as much inconvenience as possible. Pedestrians will still be able to access over the bridge.”
