Westfields recorded their second consecutive Hellenic League Premier Division win with a solid 2-0 home victory over visiting neighbours Hereford Pegasus in wet conditions on Tuesday.

The match was played in torrential rain in front of 238 spectators who were treated to an action-packed end-to-end encounter where Westfields ran out 2-0 winners with goals in the second half from Josh Hunt and Joe Davies.

Both sides played attractive open football on a beautifully prepared pitch in torrential rain but it was Westfields who enjoyed the better of the first half with a number of clear-cut chances which were not converted.

Winger Dan Stoneman was a constant threat to the Hereford Pegasus defence and put over a couple of menacing crosses which former Westfields goalkeeper Matt Gwynne dealt with effectively but Gwynne was relieved on a couple of occasions when Josh Hunt twice went close to opening the account for Westfields.

After a goal-less first half Westfields got off to a great start when they scored in the 50th minute when a great run down the left flank by Jack Gittoes saw his cross converted at the far post by leading goal-scorer Josh Hunt.

This goal put impetus into the Westfields attack and within a further 5 minutes Westfields had gone ahead when Joe Davies brilliantly headed home a right-wing corner.

This put Westfields in control and further efforts went close when Ryan Green, making his first appearance since his Achilles injury, hit the post with a far-post header.  Then Gwynne saved brilliantly from close-range.

Westfields then had to contain a lively Hereford Pegasus attack in which former Westfields striker Carlos Moreira was prominent and twice Ian Havard in the Westfields goal saved really well low down in the wet conditions.

With the driving rain continuing, both sides played good football on the slick surface as Westfields ran out comfortable 2-0 winners to put them up into 5th spot in the league table after just 3 games.

Westfields and all Hellenic League Premier Division sides have a blank fixture date on Saturday due to FA Cup commitments and their next game will be now Wednesday 24th August when they play away at Longlevens in Gloucester.
