Liberal Democrat Dilys Neill has been elected as chairman of Cotswold District Council.
The Stow ward councillor takes on the position from Nigel Robbins who has been in the role for the last two years.
Her deputy for the year will be Tetbury East & Rural ward councillor Nikki Ind.
Cllr Neill said she would fulfill the position to the best of her judgement and ability.
She joked that she may need to completely update her wardrobe to match the ceremonial chain she must now wear for the position.
Council leader Joe Harris, who put Cllr Neill forward for the role, said he was thrilled to do so and that she had cross party support.
He also thanked Cllr Robbins played during the difficult times last year.
“She is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and that’s why there is so much cross party respect and affection for you Dilys,” Cllr Harris said.
“I can’t think of anybody else who is more suited to this role. I’m sure you’ll do a fantastic role and I’m absolutely thrilled to propose you.”
Councillor Juliet Layton who seconded Cllr Harris proposal said Cllr Neill will be a great representative for the council.
“She’s just going to be exemplary. She’s a great front person to be out there and I’m very delighted.”
Both appointments were backed unanimously by councillors.
