Third of Worcester is vaccinated

Almost a third of the city’s adults have now been vaccinated against coronavirus according to the latest figures.

NHS England said a total of 28,563 people in Worcester have now received two doses of a Covid vaccine.

Based on Office for National Statistics (ONS) population estimates, 32 per cent of Worcester’s 89,500 people aged 16 and above have now received both Covid jabs.

A total of 4,012 people received their second jab in the week up to May 9 according to the NHS figures – up from 24,551 people in the week up to May 2.

Of the people that have received two jabs in the period up to May 9, 4,498 people were aged 80 and over.

A total of 7,664 people in their 70s in Worcester have received both jabs and 5,757 people were in their 60s.

NHS figures show 3,883 people in their 50s in Worcester have now had two Covid jabs. A total of 2,766 people in their 40s in Worcester have received both jabs – of those people 1,280 were aged between 40 and 44.

As many as 4,015 people in Worcester aged 40 and under have received two Covid vaccines.

Based on NHS figures and population estimates, roughly 92 per cent of people in Worcester aged 80 and above have now received both jabs compared to 89 per cent of people in their 70s have received both doses of a Covid vaccine.

Roughly 52 per cent of people in their 60s in Worcester have received two jabs and around 25 per cent of people in their 50s have received both doses.

Roughly 19 per cent of people in their 40s in Worcester have now had two Covid vaccines.

Figures also show as many as 53,795 people in the city have received one Covid jab so far including 1,135 more who have received their first jab in the last seven days.

As many as 81.3 per cent of care home residents in Worcestershire have now received two doses of a Covid vaccine, according to the NHS figures.

A total of 96.9 per cent of care home residents in Worcestershire have received one jab so far.

However, the percentage of staff in the county’s care homes receiving the vaccine is lower.

As of May 9, a total of 84.3 per cent of eligible staff have received one jab.

Figures show a total of 58.3 per cent of care home staff have now received two doses of a Covid vaccine.
