Westfields recorded a 1-0 away win at Longlevens last night in the Hellenic League Premier Division to register their third consecutive win without a conceding a goal.

Westfields, who had been beaten away at Longlevens last season, got their full reward with a hard-working display which had there been better finishing they would have won by a larger margin.

Westfields attacked from the start and only brilliant goalkeeping by Longlevens’ custodian Dan Trott kept the home side in the game as he kept out goal-bound efforts from Josh Hunt, Jack Gittoes and Dan Stoneman.

However, Westfields took the lead in the 22nd minute when from a Dan Stoneman cross the Longlevens defence cleared to the edge of the box where fullback Sean Powell rifled home a shot through a ruck of players to put Westfields ahead.

Westfields then should have increased their lead when Steve Davies went through on a one-on-one with the home goalkeeper but his shot went agonisingly wide of the far post.

At the other end only a timely tackle by Ryan Green prevented a Longlevens equaliser just before the break.

After the interval Westfields maintained their pressure in the early stages and dangerman Dan Stoneman hit the crossbar with a free kick and then only minutes later hit the post with another fiercely driven shot from the edge of the penalty area.

With Trott in superb form in the Longlevens goal it was inevitable that the home side would come back into the game and the Westfields defence had to survive a number of corners when both Paul Hurrell and Joe Davies cleared the ball with brave headers whilst at the other end Harrison Iddles almost increased the Westfields lead when he went through on goal but again Trott produced a save at the feet of Iddles.

Westfields again worked hard to preserve their lead and went up to third place in the league table with 3 valuable points away from home.
