Westfields and Chepstow Town battled out a 1-1 draw in the intense heat on Saturday in Westfields’ opening home pre-season friendly.

The game was played at allpay.park in high temperatures but both sides played fast attacking football and in fact Westfields opened up really smartly with Dan Stoneman looking very dangerous on the right wing although his early crosses were not converted by the front men of the Westfields attack.

Stoneman and Harry Pitman looked impressive in the Westfields line-up but it was the visitors who took the lead right on the stroke of half-time when Josh Gibson put in a header which got deflected by a Westfields defender past an unsighted Ian Havard.

This gave the visitors a great start to the second half and they came out really strong although Westfields looked good at the back with Sam  Rawlings and Sean Powell looking very tidy in the defence.

Westfields had a great chance then to draw level when Harley Morris was brought down in the penalty area but Josh Hunt saw his penalty kick well saved by the Chepstow goalkeeper.

At the other end, Ian Havard prevented Chepstow taking a 2-0 lead when he made a brilliant save at the foot of the post to thwart Chepstow’s response, and then Westfields brought on substitutes Kyle Cassell and Adam Wakely, and both these strikers began to penetrate the visitors’ defence.

Eventually Cassell got the Westfields equaliser when he shot home through a ruck of players from the edge of the penalty area in the 82nd minute to give Westfields a share of the spoils.

Westfields now play Monmouth Town on Tuesday night, kick-off 7.45pm at allpay.park.  They then travel to Devon on Saturday to play Brixham Town, kick-off 3pm, and then Hereford FC come to allpay.park on Thursday 28th July, kick-off 7.45pm.
