Tributes are being paid to 40-year-old Paul Heenan.

Emergency services were called to a report of a road traffic collision on Main Spike Road, Rassau Industrial Estate, Ebbw Vale on Friday.

The collision involved a black, Peugeot 208 and a pedal cycle.

The cyclist, Paul Heenan from Abertwysseg was taken to The University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff and sadly, as a result of his injuries, passed away the following day.

The family have paid the following tribute: “The sudden passing of Paul in such devastating circumstances will leave an emptiness that will never be filled.  He was a man who was so full of life and love for his family.  He was a devoted dad to his 5 year old daughter Olivia and 6 month old son Cody.

"Paul was my childhood sweetheart and we had been together for 22 wonderful years. Our time together may have been short but the happiness we shared together will last a lifetime and Paul will live on in our children.

"As a family we would like to thank everyone that has sent messages of support, we would now ask for some time to grieve together as a family.”

The driver of the black, Peugeot 208, a 31 year old man from the Ebbw Vale area was arrested at the scene on Friday 10th April. 2020 He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving. He was released from custody under investigation while our enquiries continue.
