A North Herefordshire town is set to get what is thought to be its first illuminated advertising sign.

Hintons Country & Garden of Station Yard, Worcester Road near Leominster railway station, has applied for consent (application number 233748) to put up a six-by-three-metre roadside LED advertisement board.

If approved, it would display a new static image every 10 seconds to traffic travelling northwards, and would be operated remotely.

“This means there are no regular visits by poster vans, usually parking adjacent to the site, removing waste and fuel usage and obviously removing any health and safety implications of putting the signs up with each new poster,” a letter from the outdoor retailer’s agent explains.

The advertisements “would not unduly distract highways users and give rise to safety issues”, nor would they detract from the appearance of the “commercial” area, it claims.

The board would also be available to display emergency information on behalf of public bodies.

Comments on the application can be made until January 24.
