A recently re-opened Hereford pub plans a new colour scheme and signage.

Noted for its Sunday roasts, the Volunteer Inn on Harold Street, southeast of the city centre, closed in spring but reopened apparently under new management in August.

Now a planning application by the pub’s owner Star Pubs & Bars, part of the Heineken brewing group, seeks permission for a replacement free-standing two-panel signpost outside, and two new lanterns either side of the door.

The pub name would also be repainted gold on green, and illuminated from above by new LED lighting.

Though not part of the application for advertisement consent, the plans also show the pub being repainted from its current cream and pale blue, to

“Windmill Lane”, described by its supplier as a soft, muted green, with quoins and window frames in a deeper “Ho Ho Green”, and the front door a darker-still “Studio Green”.

The same group was recently unsuccessful in attempting to change the colour scheme of the Man of Ross Inn in Ross-on-Wye. But this required listed building consent, whereas the more modern Volunteer Inn does not.

Comments on the application for advertisement consent, numbered 233243, can be made until November 27.
