NFU Cymru members in Monmouthshire are invited to this year’s virtual county conference on Tuesday 12th January to hear from guest speaker, Professor Chris Elliott OBE.

Taking place virtually on Microsoft Teams from 7.30pm, guest speaker Chris Elliott, Professor of Food Safety and the Founder and Director of the Institute for Global Food Security at Queen’s University Belfast, will guide members through a discussion on the complexity of food systems and the challenges of feeding a growing population.

NFU Cymru Deputy President Aled Jones will also speak to members at the virtual meeting, providing an update on the union’s work in key areas including the UK’s departure from the EU, bovine TB, the impacts of Covid-19 on the industry, and future farming support, including Welsh Government’s newly published white paper.

NFU Cymru Monmouthshire County Chairman David Edwards said: “I’d like to thank Professor Elliott for agreeing to join our county conference this year. Given the events of the 2020 and the impact that Covid-19 had on food supply chains, I’m very much looking forward to hearing Professor Elliott’s expert analysis on the challenges faced by the food and farming industry at this time.

“While the Coronavirus restrictions mean that our meetings continue to be held in a virtual format, these events are still of great value to members and I encourage everyone to log in to the meeting on Tuesday 12th January to listen to our fantastic guest speaker. All members who join our virtual county conference will be entered into our prize draw to win £50 shopping vouchers.”

NFU Cymru Monmouthshire members will receive joining instructions for the meeting via email and as it’s virtual this year, the event is open to members across Wales. For more information or to register your attendance, please email nfu.cymru@nfu.org.uk or call 01982 554200.

NFU Cymru would like to thank HSBC UK for sponsoring all 11 virtual county conferences across Wales.
