Staff at Lake View Nursery are celebrating their achievement of becoming the first early years provider in Herefordshire to gain the 'Healthy Tots' public health accreditation.
The nursery, based at Thorn Business Park in Rotherwas, was the first to complete Herefordshire Council's new 'Healthy Tots' programme that supports children's health and wellbeing.
The public health programme provides a template for early years staff relating to teaching, planning, tracking and monitoring the health and wellbeing of nursery age children.
Lake View's staff have been working closely with Herefordshire Council's Healthy Tots Co-ordinators to encourage their children to choose healthier foods and drink, take part in regular physical activity and look after their oral health.
Councillor Carole Gandy, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: "Congratulations to Lake View Nursery on being the first early years provider to complete the new Herefordshire Healthy Tots programme. The staff have been doing some amazing work with their children and families to promote and support healthier lifestyles."
Laura Yarwood, Lake View Nursery Owner, added: "Healthy Tots is a wonderful initiative that guides and supports the health-related work in our nurseries. The programme helps us to ensure our healthy eating policies are robust and fit for our nursery. We've seen how introducing small health related changes can have a long lasting positive impact on the lives of our children, their families and our staff."
Lake View Nursery will receive an award to mark their achievements at a special ceremony at The Courtyard in Hereford on Wednesday 14 May.
The Healthy Tots programme is part of the government's 'Best start in life' initiative and is supported by Herefordshire Council's Public Health Team.
