High Town in Hereford has re-opened following an earlier welfare incident.

Emergency services including armed response were called to the city centre at just after 3pm.

The incident was focused on the Santandar branch and an empty shop unit.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police told Sunshine Radio: "Whilst there have been no arrests made, there is a continued police presence and an earlier road closure at East Street and an earlier police cordon have both now been lifted. "

"We would like to reassure local people this is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports for a patient’s welfare on High Town at 3.08pm and currently have numerous resources in attendance including an ambulance, three paramedic officers and our Hazardous Area Response Team."

A large cordon was lifted at just after 6pm with a small area still closed off to the public,
