82,000 diners eating in Monmouthshire restaurants saved over £460,000 during the month long “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme, new figures have revealed.

The UK Government has released a breakdown of the figures for each parliamentary constituency, with the scheme allowing diners to get up to £10 off a meal at participating restaurants on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The scheme allowed a 50% discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in, up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner.

But with the figures only containing claims made up to midnight on August 27, and excluding major chain restaurants, the grand totals are likely to be higher.

The data shows 115 restaurants across the county registered to take part in the scheme.
