Plans for 30 affordable homes in a village on the border with Shropshire have been lodged with Powys planners.

Mike Sambrook of SJ Construction Ltd has submitted a planning application to build the homes at land north of the B4393 road and west of “Oakland” at Crew Green near Welshpool.

Planning agent, Michael Lloyd of Berry’s explained the proposal in a planning statement and explained that SJ Construction are jointly working on the project with Barcud not for profit housing association.

Mr Lloyd said: “SJ Roberts Construction, in association with Barcud Housing Association, propose a residential development that will contribute towards meeting the significant demand for affordable housing in Crew Green and the surrounding area.

“The proposed development will provide 30 affordable dwellings on land that lies between existing residential development within the village of
Crew Green.”

The development would be made up of: two four bedroom semi-detached houses, two three bedroom detached houses, eight three bedroom semi detached houses, six two bedroom semi-detached houses, six one bedroom semi-detached houses, four one bedroom end terrace units and two one bedroom mid-terrace units.

Mr Lloyd said: “Crew Green lies in a strategically important position on a main transport corridor from the West Midlands (of England) into central Wales.

“It is under 10 miles from Welshpool and 11 miles from Shrewsbury, both of which offer a range of services, facilities and employment opportunities.”

He explains that the village is made up of “four clusters” of development along the B4393 and “benefits” from a number of services and facilitates.

Mr Lloyd said: “The  site is bounded to the east and west by existing residential development.

“In order to address concerns expressed by the local community during the statutory pre-planning application consultation exercise, a new access onto the B4393 is proposed to serve the development.”

He added that a “proposed footway” across the front of the site will link to the existing pavement that will allow people to walk to facilities in Crew Green or nearby Coedway.

Mr Lloyd believes that: “No unacceptable adverse impacts have been identified as arising from the proposed development.”

A decision on the application is expected from Powys County Council planners by March 14.
