A circus with a difference is coming to the middle of Hereford.
Herefordshire Council has granted a licence to Cardiff-based NoFit State Circus to use part of the council-owned Merton Meadow, north of the
Hereford FC football ground, between March 17 and June 13 “for the siting of a touring circus”.
“This area of Merton Meadow car park is fenced off and currently unused, therefore there will be no impact on car parking provision,” the council’s notice of its decision said.
Formed nearly 40 years ago, NoFit State puts on a wide range of performances from street shows to touring tent shows, including the recent Sabotage, a “socially relevant contemporary circus production” which “challenges the status quo”.
The circus is collaborating with the nearby Courtyard Theatre for use of the space, the council notice added.
The two previously collaborated in 2018 on a specially commissioned youth-oriented show at the theatre to celebrate 250 years of circus performances.
