A historic Herefordshire country pub has applied for permission to install new “wellbeing” facilities.

The Riverside Inn, by the river Lugg at Aymestrey between Wigmore and Kingsland, plans to introduce two shepherd huts for use as treatment rooms, one “horse box sauna” and two hot tubs.

These would go on land to the rear described as currently for keeping chickens and pigs, and a garden.

These would form an “ancillary wellbeing facility for use by residents only”, the application says, adding that if approved, the work would give rise to two part-time jobs.

The pub has already installed three “timber en-suite garden rooms” to the rear along with other external improvements, part-funded by EU money for rural development.

Owner Andy Link said: “The new wellbeing option will fit in with our low-impact ethos and will be tucked neatly away, where our guests can relax and enjoy the peace of the surrounding countryside.

“We are hoping that this extra dimension to the Riverside Inn will give guests yet another reason to visit Herefordshire, and enjoy all that our wonderful natural environment has to offer.”

Comments on the application, numbered 231309, can be made until June 29.
