Herefordshire Council preparing for Brexit

Herefordshire Council leaders say they have made some preparations for the UK’s departure from the European Union.

The council is working closely with nearby councils along with the Government and other authorities in the west Mercia area.

However, they are awaiting more clarity from the government regarding what type of Brexit the country will finally goes for.

Alistair Neill, Chief Executive Officer, said: “The council, along with our neighbouring councils and partners in the west Mercia region, is actively engaged with central government in Brexit planning.

“We work closely with central government and those partners to support the resilience of our services and those of our partner organizations, alongside the resilience and continued prosperity of our communities.

“Our individual service areas review potential impacts on service delivery on a regular basis, and we have a process in place to escalate any identified issues.

“We have also participated in Local Resilience Forum multi-agency training and awareness sessions for Chief Officers.

“We are mindful of the need to plan for the possible contingencies of Brexit, but we await clarity of government policy and indeed timing on the central plans for Brexit.

“In doing so we will review what can be done to share and sign-post information on Brexit and any anticipated local impacts, to our residents and businesses where that is appropriate.”
